About Me
My passion for understanding and working with people began by studying Psychology at Bangor University, graduating with a BA Hons (2:1) degree. Following that I spent a year solo travelling around the world across many different countries including Indonesia, Thailand, Australia and New Zealand. I then joined Virgin Mobile (now Virgin Media) as a Customer Service Adviser. I remained with the company for 12 years, growing a career in training and development…I’m most proud of designing, delivering and evaluating a training program which was taken to all Virgin Media customer centres including the then outsource partner in Johannesburg South Africa where, over the course of 2 years, I had the opportunity to work with managers and trainers to enable them to deliver the program for themselves.
Experiencing an episode of (what I now recognize as) post-natal depression following my first sons’ birth, inspired me to want to retrain as a counsellor. I was able to gain my basic counselling qualifications at Lackham College in Chippenham before being accepted by Relate to complete a 2-year Diploma in Relationship Counselling. I have worked for Relate for 5 years, where I continue to work with individuals and couples at my local Centre in Wiltshire but also through Relates digital platform providing video call, email, voice call, and text chat counselling.
My Counselling Approach and Experience
I adopt an integrative approach to my work. This means that I can draw on a range of models and theories to enable a counselling experience best suited to the needs of my client. For example, CBT, Psychodynamic and Systemic. I have experience of working with people in many different types of relationships including married, living together or apart, LGBTQI+, non-monogamous and everything in between. I have previously worked with many different relationship issues including communication, betrayal and affairs, differing parenting styles, managing conflict and declining sexual intimacy. I have experience of working with a range of different topics including mental and physical illness, loss, neurodiversity, low self-esteem, sexual identity and childhood experience.
